Fine Art Friday Week Six

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

I’ve been going through all my old files on my computer a little at a time, trying to get my digital space organized alongside my physical space. In the process, I found some sample sketches for a webcomic I considered starting. I don’t even remember when I drew this. It was probably a long time ago, as I can’t think of the last time I saw this type of load screen when watching Netflix. I’ve always wanted to start a webcomic but have been intimidated by the idea that my art wouldn’t hold up to the standard I wanted. It was totally the wrong perspective. Instead, I should have been thinking about taking on that challenge and watching how my art skills would grow the longer I kept practicing. A part of me wonders where I’d be right now if I’d done that. The rest of me says screw regret. I’m gonna challenge myself now. I’ve got some planning to do.

Fine Art Friday Week Five

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

I took a picture of some wilting roses that my roommates had in our kitchen because I was really enjoying their aesthetic, and I thought I might want to do something artsy with the pic. So I spent some time today working playing with the picture on my iPad. The mixed media image below is the weirdness that came out of my brain. I’ll probably revisit the roses when I feel a bit more inspired and see what happens then.

Fine Art Friday Week Four

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired when I sat down at my iPad this week. I really want to find some art YouTubers to start following to get inspiration and start stepping up my art skills. If you follow any YouTube channels that focus on teaching art skills that you really love, let me know about it in the comments so I can check it out. My offerings to the art gods this week are posted below. It’s a variation of my shoulder tattoo. I repeatedly shrank and enlarged the base layer by 10 percent each successive layer to see what happened. It is a kind of trippy image at the end there.

Fine Art Friday Week One

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

I’ve been challenging myself to make more art. Some of that art will be linked to my books and some of it won’t. Not all of it will really be “fine art.” Some of it will just be “fine” art. Honestly a lot of it won’t live up to the lofty expectations that Fine Art Friday implies, but it’s a pretty catchy name so I’m taking creative license with these posts. Today I’m sharing something inspired by the bar in my novella Moon Witch Lost. If you’ve read it you might remember that I described The Realm’s sign as a rainbow with a fairy riding it. I decided do a mock up of what the employee shirts would look like based off the sign’s description.

I ended up liking it enough to post the design on my threadless artist shop. (Yes this is a shameless attempt to cash in on my art, disguised as a way for super fans to get closer to the world of my books.) I hope you all get a smile out of it.
