Thought-Provoking Thursday Week Four

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

The “enemies to lovers” trope is one of my favorite writing tropes. I feel like I almost always see it go one way: the “hero” brings the “villain” around to the side of good. I’d like to see another version of this trope play out. If anyone knows of a well-written “enemies to lovers” story where the darker half of the pairing brings the lighter half down into the darkness or a version where they don’t change for each other but somehow manage to form a bond, please recommend it in the comments!

Writing Prompt: Write a scene that explores the enemies to lovers trope. What part of the relationship do you find most interesting?

Word Count Wednesday Week Four

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

My word count for the week has suffered for the sake of preparing to move. I only got 1280 words this week. Definitely my lowest count for a while, but it was for a good cause. Soon enough I will be able to move in and have more time to write again. I hope any of you who are working on stories of your own had a better writing week than I did. If you didn’t that’s okay. Just keep going back to that story every chance you get until you figure out how to move it forward.

Shelfie Sunday Week Three

Alright so today is a weird pic but I’m really excited about it. The space I’m moving into has a built in book shelf which is something I’ve always loved but never had. I spent my whole day painting and I’m still not done. Still I couldn’t wait to share the progress so far. I’m in love with the purpled the walls. I’m gonna paint the inside of the shelf a light purple to make it a focal point. They will have glass shelves in place once I’m done painting. I will definitely be posting finished pics when it’s done. For real though I can not express how awesome it is to have my first built in shelf.

Fine Art Friday Week Three

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

I have a couple of friends who are big-time RuPaul Drag Race fans. I don’t share their level of enthusiasm for the show. I love seeing the queens’ craft/skill, but the drama of reality tv isn’t my jam. Anyway, I had this idea of a gift for my friends. Turning the board game Guess Who? into Guess Ru? (I’ve recently learned that this isn’t actually a brilliantly original idea only I thought of and there are actually Guess Ru? Sets on Etsy.)

I’m pretty proud of the way my version turned out, and I had fun making it. I started my friends’ boxes off with the queens from the first three seasons. I’m planning to add to their collections throughout the year. If you like this idea and want a copy for yourself, I’ve put up my files for download and a step-by-step guide on a new page here on my website: Digital Downloads.

Thought-Provoking Thursday Week Three

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

So you know that moment when you’re writing, and you can’t think of the word you want or maybe just can’t remember how to spell something, or you need to look up one specific fact. Whatever the reason, you open an internet browser, and you look up the thing you wanted, but instead of closing the browser, you get sucked in and waste a bunch of time. This whole time your work in progress is crying because, at this point, it has severe abandonment issues. This crap happens to me all the time.

Half the time, I don’t even realize I’ve lost my flow until it’s too late. (It’s never too late to pick back up writing; I’m just a drama queen.) Anyway, the point of my rambling is I’m trying to break myself of this bad writing habit. So far, I’d committed to using an app called Forest to keep me off my phone and iPad. It is an app meant to keep you from touching your devices for a set amount of minutes. It costs $2.99 on the App Store, but there are free equivalents. (Spending the money motivates me to really commit to using the app.)

Taking my phone and tablet out of the equation only helps so much, though. So I’m looking for other tips that help people focus. If you have a trick that works for you, let me know about it in the comments.

Writing Prompt: Are there any distractions that get to your character every time? Write a piece about your character resisting or otherwise dealing with distractions.

Word Count Wednesday Week Three

Hey Fans, Friends, and Fellows,

This week’s word count closes down at 4177. That’s actually more than I thought I would get done because this week was depression heavy. It’s a bit reassuring though that the number wasn’t too far off from previous weeks. If you’re having a rough week and your word count isn’t what you wanted it to be remember to be kind to yourself. It is okay to work at your own pace or even less than your ideal pace. Just keep going.

Fine Art Friday Week Two

Hey Friends, Fans, and Fellows,

I’ve been playing with the different brushes available in Autodesk Sketchbook and made a temporary book cover for my current work in progress. When the book is ready, I’ll hopefully get the cover art done by the artist who made the covers of Moon Witch Taken and Moon Witch Lost. This will be a nice placeholder for now. Plus it was pretty fun to make. Autodesk Sketchbook is a free app in the Apple app store by the way. If you’re an Apple user who wants to work on their digital art skills it is a good place to start.
